Despite growing efforts to raise awareness of the health risks of obesity, weight woes continue to plague the United States.
A new report, aptly titled “F as in Fat: How Obesity Threatens America’s Future,” found that the obesity rate in 28 states rose over the past year.
Thirty-eight states had obesity rates above 25%. Comparatively, in 1991, no state had an obesity rate above 20%.
Obesity rates exceeded 30% in eight states, doubling over the past year from last year’s four states.
The number of people who say they participate in no physical activity increased in 12 states.
These findings show that while Americans have made strides in addressing the obesity epidemic in recent years, there is still an urgent need to take the fight against obesity further.
Keep doing your part to promote healthy lifestyle choices in the workplace, encouraging weight management through nutrition and exercise.
Even on a small scale, health education can make a big difference in people’s lives. Keep it up and you’ll start to see good health catching on.
