Are your employees working too hard?
A recent UK survey of 2,600 adults found that one in four people work all day without taking a break.
More than half of those surveyed said they force themselves to come in to work even when they’re sick.
Most cited a heavy workload as the main reason, as well as an inadequate number of staff members available to share the burden.
Not only does this nose-to-the-grindstone approach sap energy and increase the employees’ chances of fatigue and burnout, it can pose physical health problems, as well.
Among the negative effects associated with overworking are increased risk of obesity, cancer, depression and anxiety, and back pain.
While a good work ethic is commendable, employees should be discouraged from prioritizing their jobs over their own well-being.
Remind them instead of the importance of striking a healthy work-life balance that includes time for family, friends, exercise, and anything else that helps fulfill them.
A happy, healthy staff will reward your company with top performance and productivity.
