If you work in an office, odds are there’s a soda bottle lurking around.
But do you know how many calories are in your favorite beverage?
If you haven’t turned that shiny bottle around before, the beverage industry says new labeling plans will move the calorie information to the front of containers, soda fountains, and vending machines by the end of 2012.
Coca-Cola Co. and PepsiCo Inc. are among the vending giants supporting this movement started by First Lady Michelle Obama to curb expanding waistlines in America.
And it may also help your company’s bottom line: The cost of lost productivity among obese employees totaled more than $3.9 billion last year.
The American Beverage Association is also looking into producing more reduced calorie beverages, and expanding nutritional information.
Maybe staring down the calorie count will cause some people to put down the can, and reach for a glass of water instead.
