A good breakfast is essential to starting your day out right, but most people will probably need more than that to keep their energy levels topped off throughout the day.
Snacking can be an effective way to help office workers combat the mid-morning slump or prevent them from hitting the late-afternoon wall.
But not all snacks are created equal, and it’s important to fuel up with the right ones.
It’s all too easy to head to the vending machine for a candy bar when the munchies hit or you need a quick boost of energy. And, sure, the sugar rush may produce the desired effect … for a little while.
But when the energy fades, you’ll likely feel even more sapped than you did before.
Not to mention the health risks associated with overindulging in the high-fat, high-calorie snacks found in the typical office vending machine.
According to WebMD, the most energizing snacks are ones that are rich in complex carbs, protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other nutrients.
These aren’t likely to be found in a bag of chips or a can of soda, so advise your employees to plan for workday snacks when they do their regular grocery shopping. They can store snacks in their desk or in the office fridge so they’re easily accessible when snack time rolls around.

And in the meantime, do your part to help your staff make healthy snack choices. Ditch some of the vending machine staples and replace them with low-fat granola bars, mixed nuts, and other nutritious options.
