Not Another Manic Monday

Many people find it hard to get motivated to work after a weekend or extended holiday due to the “Monday blues”. This phenomenon is especially relevant this time of year when workers take random vacation time and every spare moment is filled with holiday preparations. People are stretched in every conceivable direction and can be tired and distracted after time away from the workplace. Often the body has made the commute and is ready to work, but the mind is elsewhere.

Because the first day of the work week can set the stage for the rest of the week it is important to help your employees jump into the week with gusto!

  • Keep a group or company calendar. Making sure everyone is on the same page is important to maintaining productivity.
  • Encourage a lunchtime walk. Even a 20-minute walk will refresh and re-energize your employees. If it is a sunny day, the natural light will boost their mood.
  • Provide healthy, high-energy snacks on Mondays. Or let employees take turns bringing in the goodies. Drinking water is also important since dehydration can cause a feeling of malaise.
  • Hold a group huddle. Take two minutes on Monday mornings for a quick meet-and-greet and some high- fives. Remember: Enthusiasm is contagious.
