Perk Up Your Workplace

Look around your office: Are you noticing your employees yawning, or getting a fifth cup of coffee to stay alert?

Your company may lose millions in lost productivity due to lack of focus and feeling tired at work from inadequate sleep and poor lifestyle choices.

Help your employees avoid daytime sleepiness by sending out an e-mail with these five tips from WebMD:

  1. Sleep! Adults need around eight hours of sleep every night.
  2. Make your bedroom a “sleep only” zone. Turn off the television and keep the laptop out of the room. Studies show that distractions can lead to insomnia which can hinder work performance.
  3. Set an early bedtime. Even 15 minutes can make a difference. Try adding 15 minutes every week, and you’ll add a whole hour by the end of the month.
  4. Eat healthy and on time. Eating nutrient rich, low calorie meals at the same time everyday can help your body get into a healthy circadian rhythm. Try bringing your own healthy snacks like fresh fruit, chopped vegetables, and whole grain carbohydrates to work. Note: Avoid eating two to three hours before bed.
  5. Exercise. Even a simple walking plan before, during, or after work can help make it easier to fall asleep. Bonus: Exercise is also energizing and helps keep your mind sharp and focused on work.
